BDCA
Introduces T12 Cricket
Jerudong Cricket Team (JCT) and Batu Satu
were declared joint-champions after the final match of the PKNBD
T12 cricket tournament 2009 was abandoned due to bad weather.
It was the first time that the Brunei
Darussalam Cricket Association has organised the tournament using
a format of cricket known as T12 which is an improvised version
of the popular T20 or Twenty20.
JCT scored 147 for six wickets in
12 overs to beat Manggis, who managed 121 for seven wickets in 12
overs and reach the championship round.
Batu Satu, on the other hand, scored
156 for four wickets in 12 overs to prevail over Brunei Rockers
who scored 123 for five wickets in 12 overs.
Six teams, including Menglait Cricket
Team and Tungku Link Cricket team, joined the inagural staging of
the tournament.
"I thought that it was a very
successful event as it was exciting and thrilling. Nobody knew who
was going to win until the final two overs in the match as the results
can change even if a team were leading by 30 runs," said Manzur
Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of PKNBD.
"This can also be more attractive
to people who are interested in the sport as it is a shorter version
of the game as. It is also good for junior players as it allowed
everyone to participate," he added.
This new format of cricket (T12)
was an experiment by BDCA with a whole new ball game, an enhancement
of the T20 to make it further exciting. Each innings lasts about
45 minutes only.
The game was played with traditional one-day rules, with some exceptions.
1. There are 12 overs only per side.
2. Each team is comprised of 10 players.
a. Each team nominates 5 batsmen and 4 bowlers (out of 10 players)
who bat top of the order (i.e. first 4) and bowl first 8 overs respectively.
3. Each bowler is restricted to maximum of 2 overs.
4. A batsman retires after scoring 24 runs. However, he can bat
again if the team loses all of its 9 wickets within the stipulated
12 overs.
5. Double the run scored is recorded if they come from the inverted-V
(as shown below) zone. |
|
6.
Not more than 4 fielders (apart from bowler) can be placed within
the inverted-V zone, on the leg side and at the boundary zone at
any time of the game.
7. For each NO BALL and WIDE BALL, 4 runs are added to the batting
side and no extra ball is allowed, except for the last over.
8. In case of tie
a. Four balls tie-match is held with a new toss. Batsmen and bowlers
must be from the originally nominated players (4 batsmen and 4 bowlers)
in respective category.
|
b.
Each batsman of a team faces ONE ball each (each bowler bowls only
one ball). The second team bats next. The team scoring higher in
the tie-match wins the game.
c. If it is again a tie, another set of 2 players is nominated and
conducted as in section 8b.
d. This will continue until a result is obtained.
Few of the Highlights of the T12 Tournament 2009 were:
• Highest score by any team: 160 runs
• Minimum score by any team: 91 runs
• Maximum runs conceded in a over: 38 runs
• Minimum runs conceded by a bowler: 2 runs
• Highest number of wickets by a bowler: 3 wickets
• Average score in the tournament: 130 runs per innings
• Average number of wickets fell: 6 wickets per innings |
RBYC
beats Batu Satu to lifts the NurEWC Cricket Trophy, 2009
|
It was RBYC's day all the way right from the word
go. Starting by winning the toss, everything seemed to be perfectly
scripted for RBYC in the final of NurEWC Cricket Trophy 2009.
On 2nd August 2009, RBYC thus successfully retained the championship
for the second year in running by beating Batu Satu by a huge
margin of 116 runs.
Some fine batting from opener and man-of-the-match
Darvinder Singh (Raja) who made a match winning knock of 95 with
3 sixes and 8 fours and quick fire 27 by Induraj helped RBYC pile
up 222 for 9 in 40 overs. Batu satu lacked the usual accuracy
and gave away 32 runs in extras. Dr. Dinesh, Rajesh, Kiyasudeen
and Dinesh M. from Batu Satu claimed 2 wickets each for Batu Satu.
|
 |
 |
In
reply, Batu Satu started well in chasing their target of 222. Batu
Satu were cruising at 72 in the first 15 overs losing only 1 wicket
but then some fine fielding from Shamnad turned the match in RBYC's
favour. Shamnad caught Dinesh Ari (39) at deep square leg and later
ran out Naveen(12) in 2 consecutive balls. The rest of Batu Satu's
batting folded for mere 109 runs as RBYC's Shihab and Raman ran
through Batu Satu's batting. Both Shihab and Raman claimed 4 wickets
each and were jointly declared as best bowlers of the final.
